Our Background

Retro Cookbook started as a hobby site to showcase my ever growing collection of vintage cookbooks, and to share the unique recipes found in those cookbooks. My passion for all things retro has been with me a long time. In the mid to late nineties, I ran a site called Rotating Fez which documented various forms of retro culture and had a large following.

Retro Cookbook picks up where Rotating Fez left off and provides a stronger focus for our ever growing readership. Recipe sites are very popular these days, and our large monthly growth in unique visitors shows that our site is no different.

While this site first began in 2008, I really began focusing on frequent updates around October 2009.  Since then, traffic has grown considerably, and Retro Cookbook is getting a steady following on Facebook and Twitter.

Web Stats & Demographics:

As of May 10th, 2010, Retro Cookbook is currently receiving between 75 to 100 unique visits a day, with an average of 4.6 pages per visit. Google currently shows our growth rate averaging around 69% per month.  Our bounce rate is consistently under 5% (currently around 1.8%), which means people visiting our site are finding what they searched for and staying on the site. Google analytics specialist Avinash Kaushik has stated:

“It is really hard to get a bounce rate under 20%, anything over 35% is cause for concern, 50% (above) is worrying.”

The majority of our readers are from the U.S., U.K., Canada and Australia. Our Shop page is the 2nd most popular page on the site.  That tells us that the bulk of our visitors are looking to purchase vintage cookbooks, and other vintage items posted on our site, and will surely purchase from our advertisers. (The Shop page is primarily a spot to sell duplicate cookbooks I end up with in my personal collection, and to sell some antiques I no longer have room for.)
